Yahoo! announced the introduction of a new utility for WordPress authors and bloggers called, "Yahoo! Shortcuts". It brings the usefulness and resources that Yahoo! properties offers in a convenient package. I don't trumpet every new Yahoo! offering simply because they are my employer but... this utility resonates with me personally and I think it's worth trying out if you're on WordPress.
Once installed and drafting a blog entry, you can click a button and all relevant content that Yahoo! has resources to support will automatically be hyper-linked to Yahoo! content. It is a real time-saver for those of us who seek out relevant context to your blog entry. [You can selectively deactivate any link you do not wish to support in your blog entry.]
and that's just the beginning...
The 'killer' part of this 'Killer App' comes in the integration of Yahoo! Finance charts and flickr integration. Hyper-links to Yahoo! SERP's (search engine result pages) are just the beginning. Saving steps in pulling relevant photos to accompany a story, this app now allows authors to pull-in photos to your blog entry with the appropriate Creative Commons licenses. Yahoo! Shortcuts can pull in content from: maps, finance, shopping, autos, news and search.
but what about TypePad...
No announcement has been made on a TypePad integration but my fingers are crossed for a speedy launch of that implementation because my experience with WordPress (although highly customizable) is a real pain to work with (relative to TypePad.)
